International Action

The United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) is promoting international space debris mitigation guidelines. However, these guidelines lack legally binding force. Some countries and companies are taking proactive measures: SpaceX's Starlink satellites are equipped with autonomous collision avoidance systems, and ClearSpace's debris removal mission is scheduled for launch next year.

Technical Solutions

Active Debris Removal (ADR) technologies include: robotic arm capture, laser ablation for deceleration, and magnetic docking. Each approach has advantages, but costs ($10,000-$50,000 per kilogram) remain prohibitively high.
